From the presidents desk...
I am reaching out to you to request you also share the committee structure with your members to determine their interest in serving on a national committee. From personal experience, I can tell you that "connecting" with the national organization through the work of our committees is the best way for members to build a "sense of belonging", and to grow our national network. And, with the aggressive and robust agenda in the "launch stage" we need the talents and energies of everyone. While there is no limit to the number of chapter members who can serve on national committees, there is a limitation of two members from the same chapter serving on the same committee.
The committees will be convened by teleconference, and the committee chairs will maximize technology to promote the on-going work of their committees. However, please note that all national committees are scheduled to meet once this year during our annual leadership retreat to be held during the period of June 10-13, 2010 at the Innisbrook Resort--the only 5-star resort in America owned and operated by a black woman--Ms. Sheila Johnson-in (Tampa/Clearwater FL metro. area). And, more specifically, the committees will be scheduled to meet from 4:00-6:30pm on Thursday, June 10th. More information on the retreat and registration process is be posted under "Events/Leadership Retreat" or simply click here on or about Feb. 15, 2010. I encourgage the leadership of each chapter to attend, along with other chapter members. Participation in the annual leadership retreat remains our central strategy for promoting effective chapter governance, the leader-development of each member, and facilitating succession planning within the chapters.
I also ask that you mark your calendars now for Sept. 16-17, 2010 when the NCBW will host its annual legislative day in Washington, D.C. (Th., 16 Sept.), followed by our organizational participation in the 33rd Annual Black Womens Conference and Luncheon on Sept. 17th. This occurs at the same time the Congressional Black Caucus meets. The NCBW will participate as one of the many black women's organizations in sponsoring this annual conference attended by 1,000+ women annually, and boasting reknowned national speakers.
Until we meet again, I remain
Fondly yours,
Dee Dee Strum
National President
